The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) is a commissioning source in the military. It is a leadership development program containing classes, leadership labs and physical and field training exercises. The ROTC cadets are educated on becoming a diverse, self-disciplined civilian with tough, centralized leadership skills and training. The ROTC is focused on students getting their college degree and offers many scholarship opportunities in each branch; Air Force, Army, Cost Guard, Marines and Navy.
Each scholarship requirements are different for each branch but they all allow a student to go to school before serving in the military, requiring the student to take ROTC coursework. Students are eligible to receive ROTC scholarships based on a student’s merits and grades. To qualify for scholarships, a student must be a U.S. citizen, between the ages of 17-26, have a high school GPA of a minimum of 2.5, have obtained a high school diploma, meet physical standards and agree to accept a commission and serve in the military on active duty or in a reserve component post graduation.
Scholarships consist of two to four year scholarships based on the remaining years to complete a student’s degree. They offer up to $18,000 scholarships for tuition, room and board options, and additional allowances for other fees besides tuition. The ROTC may also provide monthly living expenses from $300 - $500 a month.
